Ma-ale Adumin is the largest Israeli settlement in the occupied territories. It is located to the East of Jerusalem. It is part of Israel's ring of concrete aimed to isolate East Jerusalem from the West Bank. It is an integral part of the Israeli Government strategy to convert Jerusalem into an exclusively jewish city and prevent Jerusalem becoming the capital of a Palestinian state.

In 1996 Manchester's Jewish Representative Council formally twinned the city with this settlement. What is more this link was endorsed by the Member of Parliament for Manchester's Gorton constituency Gerald Kaufman and the Lord Mayor of Manchester, Joyce Keller. See press report below.
